Peanut #2

I know I haven't posted pictures of Peanut #2 yet so here they are. We had our 12 week appointment this past Wednesday. We went last week but the baby measured too small to do the 12 week scan (since I wasn't that far along yet). They do an ultrasound and measure the fluid in the back of the baby's neck as one of the early tests for defects. So they told us to come back in a week which was Wednesday. Since Greg came to the first appointment, I didn't think he'd come back to this one as it was only an ultrasound and a fairly quick appointment that I scheduled during my lunch hour since I work 5 minutes away from the hospital. But, when I got to the doctor's office, Greg was in the waiting room. What a nice surprise! Peanut #2 was not cooperating with the ultrasound tech as the baby needed to be in a certain position to do the scan. All the baby wanted to do was smile for the camera! Definitely my child already.

We tried different things to get the baby to move positions...coughing, moving around, etc...and in the interim, the ultrasound tech kept taking pictures so I ended up with a stack of pictures by the end of my appointment. We had also heard from several friends that this particular ultrasound tech could give you an 80% accurate guess on what the baby's gender is at 12 weeks. We asked the tech and she said she could probably tell us. The tech does this for fun and based on all of the ultrasounds she has done, she's correct 80% of the time. Apparently she looks at the ultrasound and since the boy/girl "parts" haven't fully developed, they are the same size at this point in time, but she said if the "parts" are sticking straight up, it's usually a boy and if they are sticking straight out, then it's a girl. So, the tech says she thinks it's a boy. Since the appointment took a while, she kept looking and confirming her thoughts and called Peanut #2 "buddy" throughout the hour. SO, we'll have to wait another 7 weeks to see if the tech was right with her prediction. Either way, we'll be excited to find out!
