We've been so busy these past few weeks that I haven't had a chance to catch up on the blog but finally had a chance to relax on vacation. So get ready for a long entry with lots of pictures! :) We spent our vacation this year in the mountains in North Carolina with our friends (2 other couples and their babies) for a week. Vacations are definitely different these days with babies but still fun nonetheless!
We packed after work on Friday night so we could hit the road first thing in the morning. Saturday, we woke up early and headed out. Alyssa slept most of the way there and the drive wasn't too bad. Since we were early and taking our time (check in wasn't until 2), we took a detour to Boone where we ate lunch at a local restaurant that had a neat menu. Afterwards, we got our out of state fishing license to fish in the river next to our cabin. Then, we headed to the cabin where we were the last to arrive and got settled in. The babies had a lot of fun playing on the floor together. While Alyssa sees Olivia almost every day at daycare, she got to see Meghan too which was a treat. A great start to our relaxing week.
The week was spent relaxing, napping, fishing, working on the puzzle, playing with the babies, scrapbooking, reading, and eating in the house. Each couple cooked dinner 2 of the nights we were there and we had 2 good nights of a fire in the fire pit where we made smores. Here are some of the highlights from the house during the week.
Alyssa had a little trouble adjusting to the mountains and new surroundings as she didn't sleep well at nights and had some tummy issues (probably due to us driving around the swervy dirt roads). She didn't sleep well in the pack and play so she slept in the bed some nights but by the end of the week, she was sleeping in her car seat in our room. For the most part, she didn't let these bother her too much and had fun during the week. While Alyssa is not crawling just quite yet, she is getting closer. She gets in crawling position from sitting but can't figure out how to get her other leg unstuck and get moving. Instead, she either gets frustrated or will shift herself while seated and scoot until she gets to where she wants to go. Oh -she can push herself backwards though. It's just going forward that we're trying to work on. She's also making more noises...she still loves clapping but now can click her tongue and Jamie even taught Alyssa how to kiss this week. She's still working on it as a lot of times, it just the "mwah" noise and not an actual kiss. A few times she did pucker up and make a fish face and kiss at us :)We did leave the house a few times. Monday we went to West Jefferson to walk around the town and visited the cheese place where we bought some local cheese, jam, pickled okra and fudge. Tuesday, we went to a state park in Virginia where Alyssa went on her first trail walk. Greg carried Alyssa in the Baby Bjorn which isn't an easy task with a 20+ pound baby (quite a workout!) We saw some small waterfalls and walked for a little while. We then went to some other sites where we could overlook the mountains. We saw deer and other wildlife and had a great afternoon.
There was one thing that did cause some discomfort for Alyssa - I saw what I had already expected to be the culprit. 2 more top teeth cutting through for a total of 7 teeth (4 top, 3 bottom). Poor girl! She was teething on anything she could find - including her friend Olivia's bouncy seat. 
Wednesday turned out to be a rainy rainy day so we all stayed in. I worked on the puzzle, got some scrapbooking done, read and ate lots of junk food while the babies played on the floor. Alyssa took really good naps during the day. Thursday, Greg, Alyssa and I went to Boone to eat lunch and walk another trail. This time, the trail was paved so we took Alyssa in her stroller. We walked about 5 miles then got back in the car and drove to Blowing Rock to look at some of the shops around the area.
Friday, all 6 adults and 3 babies took a group trip to a winery where the group tasted wine and hung out with the 89 year old (?) man Tom who owned the winery.
Friday also marked Alyssa's 9 month mark. I printed out the sign to take with us on vacation but since I didn't keep track of days, I accidentally took her 9 month old picture a day early until Jared pointed out that Thursday was the 18th. Oh well. I'll post both pics (from Thursday and Friday).
Alas, vacation had to come to an end so we packed up Saturday and headed back home to spend a good Father's Day weekend at home before we go back to reality. We had a great week and had lots of fun.
